Building Edmonton’s new Energy Recovery Facility

The construction of the new Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) is now well underway at Edmonton EcoPark.

Within the North London Heat and Power Project, the ERF forms part of the North London Waste Authority’s ambitious plan to redevelop the 52-year-old Edmonton EcoPark. The project is building a new sustainable waste hub, offering cutting-edge recycling facilities and replacing the energy from waste plant for residents in North London.

Location: Edmonton, north London

Commissioning date: 2027

Working in partnership with ACCIONA

ACCIONA have been appointed by the North London Waste Authority to bring the ERF blueprints to life, and to do that they’ll need a team of skilled and experienced workers to assist across their supply chain.

That’s why NRL are delighted to be working with the team at ACCIONA to develop a dedicated talent pool to manage job opportunities on this project.

About the project

Once operational, the new Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) will allow North London Waste Authority (NLWA) to continue to use the household waste of 2 million residents to generate energy.

It’s expected that 2,500 job opportunities will be created throughout the project, and up to 127,000 homes could benefit from the power the new facility will generate as well as supplying heat for up to 60,000 homes.

NLWA manages around a quarter of the recycling and rubbish in London in the most environmentally friendly way possible. The new 78 megawatt ERF will continue to allow NLWA to divert waste from landfill.

What is an Energy Recovery Facility?

Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) sites generate power from everyday rubbish. At Edmonton EcoPark, the new ERF will have the capacity to produce both heat and power, through combustion of residual waste - the leftover non-recyclable waste that would otherwise need to be sent to landfill or transported to facilities outside the north London area.

Through this combustion technology, power can be exported to the national grid and provide heat through a decentralised energy network.

Interested in working on the Energy Recovery Facility construction build?

NRL are creating a talent pool and welcome applications from candidates looking for an opportunity to be considered for work on this project.

Contractors and subcontractors working on the ERF will select candidates from the project talent pool, where they require skilled workers at various stages of the project.
